Mini Lin 30 Speedy + Wallet
Paris, France
LOT #051
$8,000
A girl's first luxury handbag is a special moment. I was in highschool. My mom was so excited to take me abroad to France.
Our last day in Paris. We were walking the Champs-Elysees when she announced she was buying me a Louis Vuitton. I don't know if it was planned or spontaneous but looking back I understand it was a moment she had to work really hard for.
The Louis Vuitton store was a good mile away. At first, I was skipping with joy. But then we started to notice all the other stores were closing. My heart sank.
Skip. Trot. Run. I tried to mute the possibility of disappointment. The ink on my winning lottery ticket was fading fast.
We found the store.
A miracle.
The sales associate said, "Don't worry. We're open an hour later than everyone else." I picked the Mini Speedy and mom got a matching wallet which she gave to me years later.
Another decade flew by and I painted the wallet. It was thrilling, using such an expensive canvas. But more importantly, a very sentimental canvas.
